Lockdown #7: Social Odyssey
Our story has become a Holmes Odyssey
Written from the heart, with raw honesty
But when will it end
We’ve gone round the bend
Our COVID lives limericked for history
Masks have dropped down, to hanging around chins
Protesters say lockdown is wearing them thin
Home aloners
Now new dog owners
Picnic gatherings in parks, just two households within
So it’s up there Cazaly, in there and fight
COVID Grand Final, the first one at night
One thing it has taught
Is the importance of sport
More than a game, it’s helped deal with our plight
Although living so close to the MCG
We had to watch Richmond win on TV
Queensland saved the season
And that’s the only reason
We loaned them the Grand Final, temporarily
My neighbours dealt with ISO, the best they were able
Both working each day from the dining room table
But when night falls
Drinking time calls
Social conversation to keep the relationship stable
Such gratitude too, to my island neighbour
Looked after my house, a generous favour
While my grass has grown
He’s kept my lawns mown
I thank my friend for his care and labour
Expat Aussies flying home from abroad
Stranded overseas, they had been ignored
An integrity commission
For dodgy decisions
For backhanders, rorts, land deals, all very flawed
Let’s help our Pacific Island friends and nations
Facing economic and climate devastation
While tourism slides
Up come their tides
Could Australia allow them more aid and migration
Trump deflects the blame for fatality rates
Two hundred and thirty thousand have met their fate
He’d deliberately deceived
About the deadly disease
Claimed a vaccine in weeks, in the Presidents’ debate
And when it comes to criminal justice reform
Trump dog whistles, like a big a foghorn
And voter suppression
To rig the election
If he loses, he’ll challenge the result with scorn
A European crisis all over again
In the UK, France, Italy, and Spain
With the same debates
We’ve had here to date
Total lockdown or targeted local campaigns
An outbreaking cluster in Melbourne’s north
Has put easing of restrictions briefly off course
Wait for the pathology
And epidemiology
We can’t be free until they find the source
But our Corona numbers continue to fall
So c’mon our leaders, tear down those walls
Christmas must be better
Please let us get together
What’s life without families after all
Here we’ve complied with all the lockdown chores
Put our lives on hold and stayed indoors
Is your health patrol
Now in better control
Dan, we’ve done our bit, but have you done yours?
