Lockdown #4: Social Idiocracy
Our COVID story has hit a twist and a bump
Corona has infected Donald J Trump
He’s no world saviour
Such reckless behaviour
Dismissed the disease as a China stunt
Trump held masks in such disdain
Seldom wore one, far too vain
He never believed
Just ignored and deceived
But now he’s sick, no one else to blame
Could Corona do what they failed to impeach
An American embarrassment, an orange leech
This White House resident
Is he fit to be President
Some say treat him with wire brush and bleach
Despite social media, we do wish him well
But business is as flat as sea without swell
The economy squished
In a Petri dish
The COVID free countries will be ones that excel
There’s talk of tax cuts and a big Budget splash
To halt the recession, with lots of borrowed cash
Picking winners
Political grinners
But will it be enough to avoid a market crash?
With a rising ocean and burning trees
This Summer’s problems will come in threes
Bush fires and floods
And the Corona bug
Sadly, our planet is under seize
We don’t need new gas to fuel the transition
It’s renewable energies that will reduce emissions
New jobs and training
Reform that’s sustaining
Investment in climate must be the guiding decision
Meanwhile, Melbourne bars are like bygone museums
Our MCG’s an empty colosseum
Poignant tombs
Of lockdown doom
Tall office blocks ancient mausoleums
Victoria is vilified, as an Idiocracy
But such commentary is just political hypocrisy
Dan blamed for negligence
With a tone of arrogance
Yet he’s still very popular in COVID autocracy
But hordes of idiots flocked to the Bay
The sun was out so time to play
Such social addictions
Broke COVID restrictions
The Premier gave them a hell of a spray
There are claims there are far bigger agents of death
Like cancer, flu, heart disease, and all the rest
But through lockdown and medics
We’ve controlled this pandemic
Casualties have thankfully been suppressed
Still yearning to get to my beach that’s beckoning
Community infection seems to be weakening
Can’t wait to roam
To my island home
Only two weeks to go, by my reckoning
Footy finals and jigsaws, so much time to puzzle
Will our freedom still mean, masks for a muzzle
Will a travel bubble
Just open up trouble
And when will pubs open…. for a well-earned guzzle
