Meltdown #10: Social Letters
Dear Scott, you were adamant this wasn’t a race
Last year’s longest lockdown has just gone to waste
You squandered our suppression
A blundering indiscretion
How you botched our vaccination is such a disgrace
Scott we are so angry, it makes our skin crawl
You had two jobs, you took your eye off the ball
We were leading the way
To hold COVID at bay
The mess we’re now in, shouldn’t have happened at all
Dear Gladys, you’re asking for our Pfizer to be diverted
But frankly your lockdown could’ve been averted
You ignored our advice
You played politics with life
So much for the gold standard you boldly asserted
But without vaccines, lockdown’s the only tool in our shed
Victoria went hard early, to put Delta to bed
But you went too late
An horrendous mistake
Rolled roulette with lives, as this lethal strain spread
You are also calling for a National Emergency
With record daily cases of viral insurgency
A plea for Job Keeper
To pay the grim reaper
But you should have shut down with greater urgency
Dear Sky News, your propaganda’s getting far too much weighting
Data manipulations, just to hold up your ratings
Stoking scepticism
Fuelling negativism
Discouraging the public from vaccinating
Encouraging protesters with the same discourse
Breaching lockdown laws, they came out in force
Their unmasked ransoms
Tirades and tantrums
Violent and vulgar, even punched a police horse
Dear Protesters, take a breath in a patient’s shoes
Gasping for a ventilator in ICU queues
The effects of long COVID
Exhausted and bloated
Then tell us what pathway you now wish to choose
Victoria’s lockdown is lifted, schools no longer closed
Remote learning is over, parents keen to offload
Back to classrooms
Back to car fumes
School drop offs in chariots clogging the roads
A lucky lockdown diversion is the Olympic Games
Sporting heroes competing in their medal campaigns
Parochial pride
In our national sides
The best tonic for COVID, is adrenalin in our veins
Gold medals abound, it’s Titmus in July
The awesome foursome rowers and swimmers can fly
And Jessica Fox
A race of hard knocks
Vicarious elation, devastation and moments to cry
Now’s a time to reflect on the five lockdowns we’ve had
March to May last year when the world first went mad
Then from July to November
Daze I can barely remember
Then snapped shut in Feb, June, July, all iron clad
Dear World Leaders, we hold you reprehensibly responsible
You denied, you delayed, you’re totally culpable
Xi Jinping let it go
Trump and Johnson far too slow
Your ignorant behaviour made the virus unstoppable
Just imagine if we’d had to deal with Delta last year
No vaccines, slow tracing and a shortage of gear
We just wouldn’t have coped
Lost more lives and all hope
If Delta was our first strain…. vastly more severe
